Netflix has just announced a new three-part documentary series about the 2014 disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight 370.

If it wasn’t so tragic, the fate of Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 might feel like something ripped from a script from The X-Files. A Beijing-bound flight from Kuala Lumpur took off on March 8, 2014, before vanishing from the radar in circumstances that remain shrouded in mystery. The Boeing 777 was found to have crashed in the southern Indian Ocean, killing all 239 passengers and crew aboard.
‘Set across seven countries, this gripping documentary series uses powerful archives to reconstruct the night of the disappearance,’ runs the official synopsis, ‘giving viewers the chance to explore three of the most contentious theories about the plane’s disappearance.’
And Netflix is leaning into The X-Files-ness of it, noting that: ‘it’s a story full of conspiracies and rabbit holes, shadowy figures and official silence – but most of all, it’s an opportunity to keep alive the memory of those who were lost in one of the great unsolved mysteries of our time and to keep pushing for answers.’
The series will tap into the testimony of those closest to the event, boasting interviews with family members, scientists and journalists, as well as the many unconnected people who have obsessively sought to find out what happened that night.
