In the hospitality industry, there are few accolades that compete with the prestige and gravity of a Michelin star, and a handful of restaurants in this European city have finally felt that thrill.
The Michelin guide finally landed in Lithuania this week, with the guide unveiled in a ceremony last night (June 13) in Vilnius. Four brilliant restaurants in the capital were each awarded one Michelin Star.
The first of these is Nineteen 18, a restaurant in Senator’s Passage in the Old Town which contrasts its high-quality ingredients with a chill, laid-back atmosphere. Džiaugsmas, which translates to ‘joy’ in Lithuanian, also received a star, and this place is known for no-fuss no-frills stripped-back dishes that focus on their core flavours.
The two other awarded restaurants were Demo, a café by day which transforms into an elegant restaurant by night, and Pas Mus (which loosely translates to ‘our house’), a homely take on high-end dining that makes for a super comfy place to enjoy some food.
‘The fact that the name of Vilnius is featured in the prestigious list will be an incentive for both us and guests from abroad to learn more about food traditions and culture, will spread the word about our talented chefs and will allow the gastronomic sector in the capital to flourish even more!’ said Vilnius City Mayor Valdas Benkunskas.
But it wasn’t all about the stars at this event – 14 Horses, Le Travi and Gaspar’s were all recognised in the evening’s Bib Gourmand Award for their outstanding and reasonably priced dishes.
